Another first for kzn - gateway theatre of shopping partners with global proptech company
30 November 2022 – Global proptech company Mallcomm, has secured a new partnership that will see its digital platform rolled out at one of the world’s largest shopping malls.
The Mallcomm technology will digitally transform the Gateway Theatre of Shopping in South Africa, which is owned by Old Mutual Property, a pan-African investment, savings, insurance, and banking group. Celebrating its 21st anniversary this year and spanning over 176,000sqm, the mall is one of the largest in the southern hemisphere and in the top 100 globally.
Mallcomm’s bespoke platform has been tailored with features that will drive operational efficiencies, centralise communication, and encourage tenant engagement at the shopping, entertainment and dining destination.
Accessed via a smartphone App, the technology enables instant messaging between the mall’s management team and more than 370 retailers, allowing any issues or operational requests to be actioned more quickly and effectively. Real time updates are provided through a single channel, streamlining on site communication and strengthening tenant relationships.
To help refine management strategies, the digital tool can also capture sales and energy data, and be used to create bespoke feedback forms, polls and surveys to measure customer satisfaction.
Sakina Norsaka, CEO of Old Mutual Property, said: “Gateway has been the catalyst for many new innovative developments in the area, which continues to benefit from our investment. Adopting the Mallcomm technology across the mall will significantly improve our management team’s productivity, helping to drive down costs and enhance the experience for our tenants.
“As a central source of communication, the Mallcomm platform will also be an invaluable tool during our current multi-million-rand upgrade to the mall over the next year. We will be using the technology to keep tenants and suppliers informed of progress and any updates that may affect them.”
David Fuller-Watts, CEO of Mallcomm, added: “Our new partnership with Old Mutual Property significantly bolsters our international portfolio and follows our first steps into the South African market a year ago.
“To be selected to support such a large and iconic shopping mall is testament to the strength of the Mallcomm digital platform and its proven benefits. Tailored to the needs of property managers and owners, the technology can streamline everyday tasks, better connect stakeholders, generate new insights, and ultimately, improve the bottom line.”
